Legal Aid Ontario’s mandate is to promote access to justice throughout Ontario for low-income individuals by means of providing consistently high quality legal aid services in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Legal Aid Ontario has special family law services to help people experiencing domestic violence, regardless of immigration status in Canada. Legal Aid provides a two hour free consultation to women experiencing violence. Through this consultation women can understand their legal rights, including issues such as the right to stay in Canada, keep your children, or get financial support, even if you leave an abusive partner. This service, along with free advice on immigration and refugee matters, is also offered through many shelters and community legal clinics.
